Giselle Garcia Castro is a Cuban independent filmmaker who has worked extensively within Cuba’s fast-growing independent film community. Her documentaries have tackled concerns within underrepresented sectors in the island and complex social processes including education, environmental protection, and private entrepreneurship in Cuba and she screens her work for specific audiences who play a relevant role in policymaking. She studied Media Communications at the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana. She also studied film at the University of St Thomas in the United States. She has been involved in several film projects (features, documentaries, advertisements, public service announcements, music videos, TV shows, radio, etc) as a videographer, fixer/producer, director, editor, director’s assistant and production assistant. She has working experience with international crews from France, Ireland, Canada, USA, and Germany, among others.
Daniel Whittle is Senior Director, Caribbean Initiatives, at the Environmental Defense Fund. His areas of expertise include US environmental law and policy, Cuban marine and coastal resources law and policy, energy policy, rights-based fisheries management, marine protected areas, and international government relations. Daniel Whittle directs EDF’s work to advance the conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems in Cuba and to accelerate efforts to build a more resilient electric system in Puerto Rico. He works with Cuban scientists, lawyers, resource managers. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and has a degree in law from the University of Colorado.
