With unprecedented, yearlong access, this gem of a documentary explores universal issues of race and poverty through the intimate portrait of a struggling Minneapolis elementary school. Its masterful storytelling introduces us to delightful children who will both melt and break our hearts, a devoted staff, and an inspiring, charismatic principal whose own personal history gives her the empathy her impossible job requires.
