Have you heard about, but are not sure how to perform, text analysis on digital data? If so, this workshop is for you. How can we discover which words are most likely to be spoken by men vs. women, or Republicans vs. Democrats? Which conversation topics are most likely to go together in a discussion on Twitter or in a focus group? How do people's tones change in the wake of a national tragedy? How can we see new terms, emojis or acronyms taking hold in popular culture or even in expert institutions (like regulatory agencies)? This workshop will allow you to start answering these questions. About the instructor: Gregory M. Eirich is the Director of the Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (QMSS) MA program at Columbia and teaches many courses for the program on various quantitative methodologies.
