The 2017-2018 Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature will be awarded to David Boyd for SLOW BOAT and Hiroaki Sato for THE SILVER SPOON: MEMOIR OF A BOYHOOD IN JAPAN. The Lindsley and Masao Miyoshi Translation Prizes and Grants will be given to Jeffrey Angles for THE BOOK OF THE DEAD and Howard Hibbett for lifetime achievement as a translator of Edo period and modern Japanese literature.
