Nathan, Class of 1919 Professor of Political Science, Columbia University Please join us for a discussion with Professor Diana Fu on her forthcoming book, a Study of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Mobilizing Without the Masses: Control and Contention in China (Cambridge University Press, 2017). Professor Fu’s work examines state control and civil society contention under authoritarian rule. Based on two years of ethnographic research that tracks the development of informal labor organizations, the book explores counter-intuitive dynamics of organized contention in post-1989 China.
