What does it take to develop a career reporting in conflict zones? From exposing taxpayer-funded "ghost schools" in Afghanistan, to shattering myths about the civilian death toll from U.S. airstrikes in Iraq, investigative reporter and New York Times Magazine contributing writer Azmat Khan has spent the last decade reporting from conflict zones. On November 16th, join a brown bag conversation with Khan about charting a career in conflict reporting, staying safe in the field, navigating ethical minefields, and other conflict essentials. Professor Khan will also talk about her class, "Reporting in Conflict Zones," which will be offered in the spring semester. Pizza will be served. Azmat Khan is an investigative reporter, a New York Times Magazine Contributing Writer and a fellow at New America Foundation. Her accountability reporting for the PBS series FRONTLINE, The New York Times Magazine, and other outlets has earned the National Magazine Award for Reporting, the Overseas Press Club Award Ed Cunningham Award, the Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding Reporting on South Asia, the Deadline Club Award for Magazine Investigative Reporting, the Hillman Prize for Magazine Journalism, and other honors.
