Nadir Jeevanjee, Princeton University "How will mean rainfall change with global warming?" Global climate models show that average rainfall increases with surface warming at a rate of roughly 1-3% per Kelvin, but we have no theory for what sets these values. This talk will review the basic physics governing mean precipitation, as well as present a new theoretical framework for understanding its changes with warming. The theory is validated against cloud-resolving simulations of the tropical atmosphere, and extensions to global climate models are discussed. Host: Ding Ma
