Self-tracking technologies have exploded in popularity and are commonly used by consumers to monitor their health and finances. But how do these technologies proliferate, and how do they impact social life?

Organized by Columbia University’s Department of SociologyISERP, and the Trust Collaboratory (INCITE), this workshop will focus on self-tracking technologies, including the ways in which algorithmic logics enable these technologies’ proliferation and infuse our subjective experience of them. Our goal is to advance our understanding of the ways in which—and the conditions under which—self-tracking technologies impact social life, and to develop strategies for amplifying and counteracting these impacts accordingly.
