Biography:

Makiko Ono is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Suntory Beverage & Food, a listed unit of the Suntory Group, one of the world's leading consumer-goods producers with operations throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

Since joining Suntory, Makiko has spent her 40-year career in a variety of roles spanning business development, marketing, human resources, sustainability, and general management inside and outside Japan. 

Makiko has been a trailblazer in many respects. In 1991, she was assigned to manage the business in France, making her the very first female expat in the company. Since then, she has long been involved in the development of international business for both alcohol beverages and non-alcohol beverages. In March 2023, she became the first female CEO within the Suntory Group, which also made her the first female CEO of a listed Japanese company with a market cap of more than 1 trillion Yen. Makiko’s appointment has made a significant impact across various industries. Major global media including TIME, Fortune, Forbes, Financial Times and CNBC, have named her as one of the most powerful female leaders.

Makiko majored in Portuguese at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. She also completed an IMD Advanced Management Program.
