Please join us for a lecture with: Berthe Jansen, Junior Professor of Tibetan Studies, Institute for Indian and Central Asian Studies, Leipzig University Moderated by: Eveline Washul, Director, Modern Tibetan Studies Program, and Associate Research Scholar, Weatherhead East Asian Institute In this talk Berthe Jansen will speak about the recent past and the more recent developments in Tibetan Studies in Europe. She will argue that the combination of (typically European) philological methods with the broader field of social history holds great potential, and will give some examples of this from her own research. About the Speaker: Berthe Jansen is junior professor of Tibetan studies at the Institute for Indian and Central Asian Studies, Leipzig University. She is the author of The Monastery Rules: Buddhist Monastic Organization in Pre-Modern Tibet (2018), published at the University of California Press. This is a Weatherhead East Asian Institute 70th Anniversary event and part of the Modern Tibetan Studies at 20 Lecture Series. No registration required.
