Nieciekawa historia, or An Uneventful Story, by Wojciech Has.
Presented by Annette Insdorf, Film Studies, celebrating the publication of her new book Intimations: The Cinema of Wojciech Has, and her 30 years of full-time teaching at Columbia University.
An Uneventful Story (1983), which Has adapted from Chekhov's short story, stars Gustaw Holoubek as a hyper-lucid man who senses both the meaninglessness of life and his proximity to death. Although the disillusioned doctor has little patience for the mediocrity or hypocrisy of the provincial town where he has taught for thirty years, he retains affection for a young actress who has returned there.
