The Honorable Curtis Pitt MP was elected as the Member for Mulgrave on 21 March 2009 and was elected Speaker of the Legislative Assembly (Queensland Parliament) on 13 February 2018.
From February 2015 to December 2017, Curtis was the Treasurer of Queensland, overseeing an annual Budget of $55 billion and was charged with driving the State's $350 billion economy.
During this time, he also had responsibility for portfolios including Trade and Investment, Employment and Industrial Relations, Energy and Water Supply, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, and Sport. He has also previously served as Minister for Disability Services and was Queensland's first standalone Minister for Mental Health in 2011.
In Opposition, Curtis was Shadow Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Trade, Employment, Energy and Water Supply, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Curtis was also Leader of Opposition Business in the Parliament.
Prior to his appointment to Cabinet, Curtis was Deputy Government Whip and served on various parliamentary committees including the Integrity, Ethics and Parliamentary Privileges Committee.
Prior to his election, Curtis worked in the Queensland Public Service where he led the Queensland Government's Indigenous Jobs and Enterprises Taskforce, established to improve economic participation for members of discrete Indigenous communities.
Previously, Curtis worked for the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships on alcohol management reforms in Indigenous Communities. He has also led the Queensland Government's business and skilled migration program, working closely with the Australian Government and private sector employers on a number of industrial relations and multicultural issues.
Prior to his career in the public service, Curtis worked in the media and cinema industries, and has also served as an Auxiliary Firefighter.
Personal
Born in Cairns Base Hospital and raised in Gordonvale, Curtis Pitt is a proud Far North Queenslander who continues his family's long history of public service.
Having attended Gordonvale Primary School, Gordonvale High School, St Mary's College Woree, he has a Bachelor of Arts (Politics) from James Cook University in Cairns.
Curtis is a person of integrity and believes strongly in family values. Curtis and his wife Kerry have had four children - Isabel (deceased), Tristan, Layla, and Kobi.
Kerry is a proud Aboriginal woman from the Kuku Yalangi people, whose traditional lands are around the Mossman/Port Douglas area. Kerry and Curtis also both share close ties with Yarrabah, the largest mainland Aboriginal community in Australia, which is also in the electorate of Mulgrave.
Curtis became the patron of Stillbirth and Neo-Natal Death Support (SANDS) after the loss of Isabel and with Kerry continues to raise awareness about the prevalence of early pregnancy loss in our community. This includes the annual "Ride for Isabel" cycling event which he founded in 2010.
