NBC Nightly News and Dateline NBC Anchor Lester Holt talks to Nikole Hannah-Jones, New York Times Magazine staff writer, about her career reporting on civil rights and racial injustice especially around education.
Hannah-Jones is the winner of the 2018 John Chancellor Award for Excellence in Journalism. The Award is presented each year to a reporter with courage and integrity for cumulative professional accomplishments. In 2016, she helped found the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting, a news trade organization dedicated to increasing the ranks of investigative reporters of color. She is also writing a book on school segregation called, “The Problem We All Live With.” Hannah-Jones has won a National Magazine Award, A Peabody and a Polk Award. She was a 2017 MacArthur Genius Grant Fellow.
Holt was named to the role of “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” anchor in June 2015 after eight years as anchor of “NBC Nightly News” weekend editions and 12 years as co-anchor of “Weekend TODAY.” In addition, Holt has served as principal anchor of "Dateline NBC" since September 2011. Holt joined NBC News in 2000 and is known for his outstanding work in the field, reporting and anchoring from breaking news events across the globe. His work has been recognized with numerous honors, including a duPont-Columbia Award, multiple Emmy Awards and a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism award.
