Calling all families! Join Derek and the Sugar Hill Children's Museum to celebrate the opening of Derek Fordjour: Parade, a journey through the sense-memory of childhood and the process of forging an identity, inspired by artist Derek Fordjour's own experiences growing up in Memphis, Tennessee. Families can enjoy an afternoon of guided exhibition tours and a visit to Derek's open studio at the Museum. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Free admission. This exhibition is guest curated by Manon Slome, Chief Curator, No Longer Empty, and is on view through January 14, 2018.
Derek Fordjour was born in Memphis, Tennessee to parents of Ghanaian heritage. His work has appeared in exhibitions at Roberts & Tilton Gallery in Los Angeles, Sotheby's S2 Gallery in New York and Luce Gallery in Turin, Italy. A graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta Georgia, he earned a Master's Degree in Art Education from Harvard University and an MFA in painting at
Hunter College. Derek Fordjour is the Sugar Hill Children's Museum's second Artist-in-Residence since its opening in the fall 2015, and Parade is his culminating exhibition.
