The artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT has impressed many for its ability to generate sophisticated answers to user questions. Millions of users have prompted it to write wide-ranging texts, from songs, to press releases, research plans, legal arguments, emails, software code, and poems. Debate about ChatGPT has dominated the news, but there has been little exploration to date from a human rights perspective. What are the potential human rights uses and impacts of ChatGPT? This event brings together leading human rights and technology experts to examine the possible benefits of ChatGPT for human rights, including for investigations and advocacy, as well as its risks and impacts, such as bias in its data, transparency and accountability for the technology, the production of incorrect answers that look accurate, and so much more. This event is made possible by HRI, and lunch will be served.
