Szyfry, or Codes, by Wojciech Has. Presented by Annette Insdorf, Film Studies, celebrating the publication of her new book Intimations: The Cinema of Wojciech Has, and her 30 years of full-time teaching at Columbia University. An elegant Pole returns from London to Krakow in the mid-1960s to find out how and why his youngest son disappeared during the German Occupation. He tries to get answers from his weary and embittered elder son, played by the great Zbigniew Cybulski. The score is famed Polish composer by Krzysztof Penderecki.
